Cross-dressing existed during the First World War (WWI). A woman, Dorothy Lawrence, secretly pretended to be a man and dressed like a soldier during the WWI. She then accompanied her father to stay at a monastery.

 

As portrayed in the picture, her hair has turned into a military style after being cut. She evened pretended to be a soldier.

 

 

Joan of Arc was a French peasant girl and a Catholic saint in the 15th-century. She joined the French army during the period of war. She was convicted and executed by the religious court as a result of dressing in male clothes.

 

 

 

Billy Tipton was a female and famous jazz pianist in the USA during the Great Depression. She lived as a man and married five times to women. There was no any parson who knew that she was a woman.
